ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
During the year 2002, the Government of Mizoram, Industries Department vide ID No.B.16015/6/2001-IND Dated 9th January 2002 established Bamboo Development Agency, Mizoram; a society with an objective to encourage, start, organize, carry on, assist, lease, develop and regulate resources, plantation, utilization, research and development of bamboo and perform such functions as the Government may prescribe from time to time; and constitute the General Body and Executive Committee. The Agency was registered under the Societies Registration (Extension to Mizoram) Act, 1976 (Mizoram Act No.3 of 1977) bearing registration no. SR/MZ-75 of 2001-02.
ASSOCIATION WITH UNDP
In an attempt to save a fast disappearing craft of Mizoram, a training programme was carried out in Aizawl district. Under the trainig, 20 artisans from two clusters, namely, Chite Veng Cluster & Edenthar Cluster (10 artisans each) were imparted skill upgradation training on bamboo handicrafts for producing Khumbeu (Traditional Hat) as there exists only about a handful of artisans within Mizoram who have the skills to make the traditional hat. Khembeu has high demand in the market both locally and internationally. The 45-days training started in October 2020.
